Cost of a funeral in Amsterdam

When someone dies, I can organise a burial or cremation in or around Amsterdam. The funeral can be as intimate or elaborate as you want.

I am always clear and transparent about the costs of a funeral. If you choose a burial, for example, you will have to pay cemetery fees. These fees can vary greatly from cemetery to cemetery.

A funeral at an exclusive location in the city centre is more expensive than a funeral in a funeral home. If you want coffee and cake to be served afterwards, it is less expensive than ordering alcoholic drinks and gourmet snacks. But other costs can also mount up. It is always a good idea to work out the budget beforehand, as a large proportion of funeral expenses come from personal choices.

As your funeral director, I will gladly advise you about your options and keep an eye on your budget, leaving you to concentrate on the things that are important to you. I have clear price lists and I will always make explicit agreements with you and my suppliers. It is worth noting that I work completely independently and do not receive commission from any of my suppliers. I am open to suggestions and will always try to arrange a funeral in Amsterdam that befits both you and the deceased.

Funeral Quest takes care of all the funeral arrangements

Saying goodbye to a loved one is never easy. Emotions are running high and it can be difficult to make the right decisions. I will take the time to discuss your wishes with you and help you to choose from the numerous options that are available to you. These discussions will help you to discover what you want, and I will give you an immediate price indication to avoid unpleasant surprises later on.

Once the funeral has been planned to your requirements, I will send an overview specifying all the funeral expenses. With your consent, I will then make all the funeral arrangements on your behalf, including contact with the suppliers. I will also take care of laying out the deceased and preparing the body for viewing.

In addition to dealing with the legal formalities, I will take responsibility for everything else involved in arranging a funeral. This includes flowers, funeral cards, death announcements, catering, the coffin or shroud, funeral transport, the funeral location, the cemetery or crematorium, the funeral home and the final resting place. I will help you to make decisions and offer alternatives to keep the funeral within your budget. For example, you could choose to arrange your own transport, make your own coffin or hold the viewing at home. Anything is possible.

Is funeral insurance a good idea?

Not everyone can afford a funeral, which is why it can be sensible to take out funeral insurance. Your insurance will then cover your funeral expenses. The type of funeral insurance does not affect your choice of funeral director. All funeral insurance policies will pay out to Funeral Quest. The most common types of funeral insurance are an endowment policy or a policy with in-kind benefits.

Please contact me to find out more about funeral insurance.

What is an endowment policy?

This type of insurance policy pays out a lump sum to the next of kin when the policyholder dies. They can use the money to arrange the funeral. The sum that is insured is decided when the policy is taken out.

The money is paid out on production of the policy documents and the death certificate.

The most popular endowment policy insurance companies are Ardanta, Reaal and Nationale Nederlanden.

What is a policy with in-kind benefits?

A policy with in-kind benefits covers the funeral expenses rather than paying out a lump sum. In other words: you insure a funeral package. The exact details depend on the premium you agree at the start of the policy, and vary per insurance company. They usually include the cost of a coffin, funeral cards, a funeral car, the funeral location and laying out the deceased. Any expenses that are not covered by the policy can be paid separately.
